Time as a Measure of Love

Communing with the Lord is one of the most beautiful things in life that we can experience. It could take 10 minutes or up to 2 hours of your time. When there is a compelling Force behind that exchange, it becomes simple, refreshing, fulfilling, and all the other words that can only be encapsulated by our tears.
Psalms 27:4 was David’s heart outpouring in desire of communing.
“One thing I have desired of the Lord, that I will seek: That I will dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple”.
Once we get a taste of communion with the Lord, we can truly resonate with what David wrote here. It is not necessarily a tradition or sacrament we hold in service. It’s unique in how different it can look for everyone. For me personally, it is tuning my attention to God through bible reading and journaling, accompanied with an atmosphere filled by songs about Him.
This desire is what empowers us, drives us, and stabilises our lives. Simply because it is the very thing we are made for.
“To behold the beauty of the Lord” as His beauty is infinite, never-ending, working through the Spirit to draw us more to Him; “and to inquire in His temple”, leading us into a deeper love and curiosity of Him. The more we are in love with Him, the more we inquire of Him.
Although let’s be honest with ourselves. A lot of us find that the further we walk with Christ, the more difficult this seems to be true. Responsibilities and the burdens of life weigh us down, perspectives change, and our hearts may not revere Christ as it used to, spiralling us into a state of apathy.
What we often do not realize is that those moments are also communion with the Lord. He communes with us in the mundane, in the dirt, in the mess, chaos and confusion of life. Even more so, He understands the season of our lives and the blockages to our communion.
However, that does not give us the reason to be carried by the currents of life and leave communion behind. In fact, should it not inspire us to return to His heart?
Let us not use our busy schedules and heavy burdens as excuses of missing communion with Him. But, let the effort and commitment we make to commune become a reflection of the love we have for Him, driven by His love for us.
Let us not become pharisaical in counting the minutes and hours we spend for Him. But let us become so radically in love with the Lord that time becomes an offering to Him, to commune with Him no matter the measure.
